Disability insurance is insurance which pays cash benefits to a policyholder (or beneficiary) in the event the insured is unable to work due to an accident or illness. While there are many different types of disability insurance, we will mainly concern ourselves with policies that replace the income of individuals. However, in our Specialized Forms of Disability sections we briefly discuss other types of disability insurance, including group long term, business overhead expense, buy out, key person, and pension completion disability.
